Many media professionals have looked to freelance work and authorship as a means for increasing income. Some see it as part of their retirement plan, while others have dreams of massive advances and royalties earned by the most popular writers of our time. The practice of writing outside the more traditional corporate workplace, however, requires knowledge of business, not just skill in the art of writing. To help NFPW members bridge this gap, a special workshop entitled “The Business of Writing” is being offered to those attending this year’s conference in Greenville, S.C. Designed for freelance writers and emerging authors who are just getting started or who have been struggling to represent their craft with a business mindset that enables them to earn money, this workshop will provide additional perspective in how to apply basic business concepts to your objectives.
